DEVELOPING GRAPHIC CONCEPTS: 50 CONCEPTS BOOK

BRIEF

This Module in Year ONE i found the most engaging. There was an element of limitless abstract creativity involved and so i felt excited towards the end result. Our task was to create 50 images from two objects. Each class member was given a random pick and mix of two objects. Mine were : BOAT & CRAB.

At first i felt the two were too similar in regards to their location, however the more i researched, the more ideas came to mind. These 50 ideas were to be made into a physical book. The dimensions, stock and finishes were not limited too. The final result was satisfying and to create more of an impact i decided to use sandpaper for the front and back cover simply by feeding a custom sized piece of A4 paper into my Espon C62 inkjet Printer (R.I.P)

BRIEF

This was our chance to get involved in a recognized official competition. more importantly should i win. The competition was high. Our Task was to read a book of our choice from 2 big Titles.. I chose The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, purely because it was written by a young boy being sarcastic which is pretty universal i feel. MY creative mind at this point in the course was feeling playful as we had to create 50 ideas of combining the crab and boat.

This was our first introduction to Adobe Indesign too at which was a challenge in itself. I was eager to learn and widen my knowledge into other adobe software. Margins, gutters, PDF exporting and more. Below is my response and of course my submission to the competition. I adopted the childish nature of Adrian and focused my attention on Pandora.

10 a.m. I am ill with all the worry, too weak to write much. Nobody has noticed I haven’t eaten any breakfast.

2 p.m. . . . Perhaps when I’m famous and my diary is discovered people will understand the torment of being a 13¾-year-old undiscovered intellectual.

6 p.m. Pandora! My lost love! Now I will never stroke your treacle hair! (Although my blue felt-tip is still at your disposal.)

Adrian Mole’s painfully honest diary is a hilarious spots-and-all glimpse into the troubled life of a teenage ‘misunderstood intellectual’ . . .

‘I not only wept, I howled and hooted and had to get up and walk around the room and wipe my eyes so that I could go on reading’ – Tom Sharpe
