BRIEF

Emma Dickson, the creative director of Neoteric Dance company contacted me and asked me to give her company an identity. Her aim was clear: helping those who were suffering from Post trauamtic stress disorder through the roles in the army. Directly the soldier or family and loved ones.

Emma felt strongly about incorporating symbology of war in her logo with the addition theme of dancing. Her company utilizes the act of dance movement psychotherapy as a creative method to bring about a sense of peace of the suffering of PTSD. Emma was funded by the arts council and worked with many other companies. She also had her work advertised in the Bristol post.

As for Emmas logo, i made a decision to combine the helmet of a war soldier with a camoflague pattern using an overlapping of dancers. Neoteric, meaning NEW needed to be conveyed so my intention was to convey a sense of modern minimalism into the logotype and body copy. I used colour palletes accordinig to each sector. Soldiers, the Navy and Marines.

SOLUTION

Consistency was vital and this was something i stressed to Emma throughout our communication as the project unfolded. Emma was in charge of making her website by herself. She was open to my design suggestions throughout each piece of work she needed. Emma was extremely happy with the end results. Below is all of the final outcomes i made for her company. There will be more work needed as time goes into 2020. I wish her the very best of luck in the growth of her company and to all of those involved in her work in the coming years.

I suggested to Emma maybe using the Custom handwriting font of Emma's in her emails or letters to clients and customers. The idea here is to play on the interaction of personal subjects, adding to the overall tone of voice of NDC. Graphic design predominantly being a digital platform, i feel sometimes adding something organic and 'analogue' as it were, can bring a new element of personality into the work as a whole.

I have many other fonts i have made from friends and familys handwriting, which i created suing the FONTSELF plug-in i purchased back in April 2017.

Check out this piece of software.
